Where can I stay?

Please refer to our hotels and RV/camping  page.  These are frequently used hotels, campgrounds and RV Parks in the area but it is always good to do your own research before booking.

When is the Run?

Always the Sunday before the Monday of the Memorial Day Observance. 2013 Date: May 26th . Bikes start departing Pentagon Parking Lot at noon.

Where is the Run’s starting point?

Rally point: North and South Pentagon parking lots open to rally at 7 am. See map on homepage.

What is the exact route of the Run?

Run Route: Riders leave the Pentagon parking lot via Washington Blvd and come across the Memorial Bridge onto Constitution Avenue heading east to Pennsylvania Avenue. Riders then turn right onto 3rd St and head west on Independence Avenue where they are directed to park in West Potomac Park. Riders generally congregate in the Mall area after the run. Where should spectators stand?

For Spectators: Pick a spot along the run route and make yourself comfortable. Roads around the Mall area begin to close at 9am so depending upon where you choose to set-up, you should be prepared to be there in the early morning.

What else is happening that weekend?

Please refer to our schedule on our homepage. This will be updated as it gets closer to the event. This year is the XXVI Anniversary and there will events on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Do I need to be an experienced rider?

It is highly recommended that all riders are experienced in riding in slow, stop-and-go high traffic conditions.

Do I need to be a member or register to participate in the run?

No. The run is open to all who wish to show their support

When and where is Thunder Alley?

What:
It is the official vending location for Rolling Thunder.
Where:
Located at 22nd St. and Constitution Ave. Washington, D.C.
When:
Opens at 9 am Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Memorial weekend.

There are multiple vendors selling the official Rolling Thunder T-shirts, pins, and patches.  There are food vendors, motorcycle apparel and gear vendors, jewelry, nostalgia and veteran related resources.

On the day of the run the area and roads around Thunder Alley will be barricaded which will make access difficult.  Here are some tips if you want to visit Thunder Alley on Sunday.

Wear comfortable shoes and be ready for a 20 minute walk.  Refer to the map below which is highlighted to show the best paths for maneuvering around the barricades and onto the other side of Constitution Avenue.

About Rolling Thunder Run

The Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run is an annual ride and gathering that first started in 1988. Riders from around the nation, and even around the world rally in the Pentagon parking lots and begin the run through the streets of Washington, D.C. Afterward, it is an opportunity to meet old and new friends, pay respect at the memorials and participate in the Memorial Day events.
